@Just off the Shiomi Track is the oldest of Matsue's two most famous teahouses. Commissioned in 1779 by Lord Fumai, the seventh Matsudaira-line daimyo and founder of the Fumai Style of Tea Ceremony, the teahouse was tended for many years by one of his closest retainers. Moved to its present site in 1966, Meimei-an is renowned for its thickly thatched roof.
