@The Ohashi spans the distance that the Ohashi River creates between the younger and, at one time, aristocratic northern half of the city and Matsue's lively southern half with its roots as old as time itself.
@A chilling tale is told of Gensuke, in the service of Matsue's first daimyo, who was buried deep in the riverbed under the bridge to appease the periodically violent river Kami. The turbulent tidal flows here at the estuary's bottleneck had proven the demise of many a half-completed bridge, hindering the daimyo's construction of Matsue Castle to the north. A small monument to the Spirit of this stabilizing "human pillar" is located to the right of the existing span's south footing.
