Matsue's hot springs are
located in Chidori-machi, on the shores of Lake Shinjiko and are said to
have a healing effect on rheumatism, motor function damage, wounds, chronic
eczema, a frail constitution, and women's problems. In the western part
of the hotel area is a spring called O-Yukae Jizo ("pouring hot water over
the guardian deity of children") that spouts boiling water, and the area
is lively with the local people who come here to collect hot water for their
baths. The O-Yukae Jizo Festival is held every year on August 24 to celebrate
the bon lantern festival. The shores of Lake Shinjiko are lined with hotels
and inns, and the lakeside offers a magnificent view of the lake at the
turn of each season and at sunrise and sunset each day. |
